Article Discussion: Romney says he's paid taxes every year
GREER, S.C.—Mitt Romney says he's never paid less than 13 percent of his income in taxes during the past decade. Romney told reporters Thursday that Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's claim that Romney paid no taxes in some years is, quote, "totally false." Reid has claimed it was possible Romney was refusing to release more than two years of returns because he didn't want...

If he hadn't paid in, there would already be proof of it. I don't worry about that any more than I worry about O's birth certificate.
All I really care about is restoring economic stability to Americans. We already know Obama isn't capable. We know Romney is.

In reality, Romney has been incredibly transparent compared with Obama. There are dozens of things that Obama has had sealed, removed or buried.
I don't think the Dems should try to make a big case out of "candidate transparency." Their raging double-standards would become very, very obvious.

You know what would make it even more obvious? If Romney were to release his returns.
Romney is a fool for letting this issue fester when he could just release the returns and put it far behind him.

Whew thats a relief to know that one of the wealthiest men to ever run for president has paid a whopping 13%. I can go get another job now. Prove it Willard. Your words are meaningless otherwise.

You say, "Romney has been incredibly transparent compared with Obama".
Well not in regards to income tax returns, Obama has released 12 years worth... speaking of raging double standards.
Clearly, if Romney had nothing that was an embarrassment to him in those years of tax returns, he would have released them long ago and avoided any controversy before it started.
If he had done it early and took the heat for a week or two, we'd be way past this by now. By waiting he has prolonged the controversy and made his position untenable. Dumb, dumb move.
Or it's so bad he had no choice.

I think Mitt should not release any more tax returns, but challenge 0bama to take a lie detector test on who has told the truth about their taxes, or any other subject matter.

Obama has stabilized the economy. It was 1/2 way under water when he took office, and it's still there. That's stable.

Article Discussion: Romney says he's paid taxes every year
OK, so he paid "at least" 13% in taxes. I'm not impressed. Now that we know the rate he paid the burning question on my mind is how much in capital gains did he pay that 13% tax on? And an even bigger question is how much does he have in offshore accounts that he DIDN'T pay taxes on? Those are the questions the voting public should be concerned with.

Why was it ok for Obama to wait so long to release his birth certificate. If he'd have done it right away it would have been behind the country a long time ago. Why won't he release his school transcripts? Is there stuff there that will embarass him? Why not just get it behind him? Why aren't you pushing for that?

Article Discussion: Romney says he's paid taxes every year
I don't think we need to worry about what any of these guys paid in taxes. We should be focused on what they are going to do about the tax situation for the rest of us. No matter what these high profile, high income people paid, they didn't do their own tax returns and we can all rest assured they paid someone else to make sure that they paid the minimum required under the regulations. Why would they pay more? Paying only what is owed is a reflection on a person insofar as it shows whether they pay attention to details - like their personal finances. If there is evidence of wrongdoing, that is another issue altogether and that should be investigated. Otherwise, why is anyone wasting our time with this?
We elect these people to balance the interests of the nation. If they pay all of their income in taxes or none of it because they don't legally have to, what difference does it make? All of this is a distraction from what should be reported on. I wish the media would pester them more about what exactly their plan is for the people of this country and quit making up "newsworthy" garbage.
BTW, I am not voting for Romney. I am just tired of all of this soap opera crap which diverts our attention from the real issues facing this nation.

Try to stay focused on the issue.
Obama has released his tax returns. Romney has not.
so, under your goose theory, Romney should release more of his tax returns.

Perhaps Obama could have released his BC sooner and perhaps should have. Why didn't he? I don't know but he did release it.
His school transcripts? Sure, release them. You obviously think there is something in them that will embarrass Obama. It's possible, I suppose.
Now, since the topic here is tax returns, maybe you can explain why Romney won't release his. Maybe there's an embarrassment waiting for Romney there too. What do you think?
